ICAP is pleased to welcome Austria as its newest member. The Austrian Minister of Finance, Dr. Magnus Brunner, signed the ICAP political declaration, making Austria the 34th jurisdiction to join ICAP as a member.
Austria has set itself the ambitious goal of achieving national climate neutrality by 2040. Emissions trading is a major part of its policy to achieve this goal, both at the European and national level. As a member state of the European Union, Austria has been part of the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) since its establishment in 2005, regulating emissions from the power and industrial sector as well as from domestic aviation. In October 2022, Austria launched its own national ETS for fossil fuels not covered by the EU ETS. Between 2022 and 2025, the system operates with an annually increasing fixed price and a flexible cap.
