The 2026 edition of the ICAP Status Report: Emissions Trading Worldwide is out now.
Despite a turbulent geopolitical landscape and renewed pressures on energy markets, global emissions trading continues to expand and mature. 41 emissions trading systems (ETS) are now in force worldwide, covering 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions across jurisdictions that together represent 63% of global GDP and more than half the world's population.
Three new national-level systems launch in 2026 — in Japan, India, and Vietnam — while established systems deepen their ambition. ETS revenues reached a record USD 80 billion in 2025, and an ETS is now in place in 14 of the G20 nations, with many naming it as a central instrument for NDC 3.0 delivery under the Paris Agreement.
A cornerstone report for the carbon market community, the ICAP Status Report features comprehensive factsheets, in-depth analyses, and infographics — covering all ETS in operation, under development, or under consideration around the world.
