ICAP as an organization has joined the ranks of more than fifty national and subnational governments, hundreds of companies and other organizations in expressing support to the Joint Statement on Putting a Price on Carbon. The Statement, an initiative coordinated by the World Bank, underlines the great significance of carbon markets and carbon pricing in the fight against climate change. It aims to showcase the growing global coalition of first movers in putting a price on carbon and to inspire action by other governments and businesses – goals that squarely fit with ICAP’s mission to support ETS development worldwide. ICAP therefore strongly supports this effort and encourages other actors to join.
The full list of signatories was disclosed on 23rd of September, when the Statement was launched at the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit in New York. The ICAP-IETA High-Level Dialogue on Carbon Pricing the following day, featuring high-level speakers from government and business from four continents, will provide an opportunity to deepen discussions on carbon pricing initiatives worldwide, to reinforce commitment to the instrument, and to strengthen partnerships to fight climate change.
