ICAP-GIZ International Advanced ETS Course in Hainan, China is now open for applications!

Application Deadline

Sunday, 2 September 2018

Overview

The International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), together with SinoCarbon, and local partners in Hainan are convening a joint international advanced ETS course for approximately 25 Chinese participants who have substantial knowledge of, and/or practical experience with, emission trading systems. Participants will be selected from diversified backgrounds, i.e. from the national, regional and local level, as well as across government, academia, think tanks, business, consultancy, media and other social sectors.

Similar to past, successful ICAP training activities, the goal of this training course is to allow participants to deepen their understanding of individual topics related to ETS design and implementation, and to further discuss ETS practical application. This fosters a fruitful exchange among participants about their respective experiences enabling them to learn from both their peers and international and domestic experts. This also serves to strengthen professional networks.

Course Setting and Language

The course will be facilitated by one international moderator and one Chinese moderator with deep ETS knowledge. Speakers will include international and national experts, i.e. policy makers from the ICAP member jurisdictions and from Chinese national and local governments, as well as representatives from international organizations and experienced ETS experts from research institutions, academia, consultancy and private sector.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided and both English and Chinese will be used (i.e. break-out groups may be conducted in Chinese; Chinese speakers may also speak in Chinese). But in order for smooth interactions with the international speakers, good knowledge of English is required (see more in the eligibility criteria section below).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Chinese nationality;
  • At least 2 years of work experience related to either ETS design and/or implementation, or broad climate change or environment protection policies;
  • Good communication skills and openness to share one’s own knowledge and experience;
  • Good knowledge of English.
