ICAP and IETA hosted a high-level event at Climate Week in New York City, 24 September 2019.

ICAP and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) co-hosted the high-level event “Unlocking Ambition – Carbon Pricing to Achieve NDCs” at the Explorers Club in New York City on 24 September 2019. The event took place the day after the UN Climate Action Summit, as part of Climate Week NYC.

The ICAP-IETA event brought together distinguished government and corporate representatives from across the world to discuss carbon pricing as a key policy instrument in tackling climate change and achieving Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event sought to share lessons learned across jurisdictions in carbon pricing and reflected on the role of carbon market cooperation; examine the role of markets under the Paris Agreement in delivering NDCs and helping to ratchet-up ambition; discusse how to overcome political resistance to carbon pricing and to preserve competitiveness; and explore how natural climate solutions help to drive momentum across the voluntary market and the international Carbon Offsetting & Reduction scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

The event came the day after the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Summit, which brought together heads of state and government, business leaders, civil society, and local leaders to New York City as part of the global effort to mobilize climate change action and ambition.
