ICAP Annual Meeting during Berlin carbon pricing week, 21-25 October 2019

Starting with the ICAP Annual Meeting from 21-22 October, a wide range of ICAP jurisdictions, ICAP co-chairs, and the ICAP Secretariat came together to discuss the latest developments in emissions trading. The meeting included a comprehensive technical workshop on carbon leakage exploring the evolution of carbon leakage provisions to date and the challenge of low-carbon transition for industry. The meeting also provided member jurisdictions with an update on ICAP's capacity building and knowledge sharing activities.
On 23 October ICAP co-hosted an event on the role of carbon pricing in reaching net-zero emissions together with the PMR and the BMU. “The Role of Carbon Pricing on the Road to Greenhouse Gas Neutrality” addressed the role of carbon pricing on the way to climate neutrality from different perspectives.
After an opening keynote by German Environment State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth, leaders from government, civil society, international organizations, and industry provided their perspectives on the role of carbon pricing in driving long-term decarbonization, safeguarding competitiveness, and ensuring a just transition. The question of an international policy framework necessary for a global carbon market to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement was also discussed. For more information, see BMU’s event page and the program agenda.
