Beijing ETS will continue until and after start of national ETS

On 26 January 2016, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform (BJ DRC) published a notification (Chinese) saying that its emissions trading system (ETS) will continue operation until the end of June 2016, beyond the original 2015 compliance deadline. No indication of an end date for the system is given. Allowances from the Beijing ETS will remain valid for those not covered by the national ETS. For companies that will fall under the scope of the national ETS, the BJ DRC has proposed to the NDRC to allow for a carry-over of allowances to the national system. 

Beijing is the first of the pilot ETS to officially confirm the extension of the system, with others expected to follow.
