After experiencing the hottest year on record in 2023, our planet crossed the 1.5°C threshold on a 12-month average for the first time in January 2024. While the world grapples with the escalating impacts of climate change, the urgent need for effective mitigation strategies has never been clearer. As governments around the world move to implement climate policy frameworks, emissions trading systems (ETS) emerge as pivotal tools in the global fight against climate change, offering a market-based approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The 2024 edition of the International Carbon Action Partnership’s (ICAP) Emissions Trading Worldwide Report, to be published on April 10, showcases progress in the design, implementation and refinement of ETSs globally over the past year.

The annual report is a cornerstone publication for the carbon market community. This latest edition once again features up-to-date factsheets on the latest developments from ETSs in operation, scheduled, or under consideration globally. The report also includes infographics that visualize key characteristics of the different systems and an executive summary distilling key trends and outlook for emissions trading systems.

To accompany the release of the report, ICAP will be hosting two public webinars timed to accommodate the global reach of the ETS community. Representatives of ETS jurisdictions will share the latest developments and future prospects from their systems, and the ICAP Secretariat will offer a closer look at the key messages and takeaways from the 2024 Status Report.

The dates, times, and regional focuses of the two webinars are below. Use the links to register.
