ICAP’s annual flagship report 'Emissions Trading Worldwide: Status Report 2019' coming in March

Over the past few years, key emissions trading systems (ETSs) worldwide have undergone sweeping policy reforms to get their systems ready for the post-2020 era. Reforms include ambitious caps until 2030 in line with broader climate targets, as well as the implementation of market stability measures that give businesses more certainty for future planning.

Out on 13 March 2019, the 2019 edition of the ICAP Status Report – ICAP’s sixth annual report since 2014 –provides a comprehensive snapshot of these post-2020 policy reforms, as well as the latest developments of ETS in operation, scheduled and under consideration around the world. The Status Report will feature up-to-date factsheets alongside infographics that visualize the characteristics of the different systems. In-depth articles from policymakers and carbon market experts also provide insights into the latest ETS trends across the globe.

Recent developments bring the global ETS count to 20 systems this year.  2019 will also see the completion of ETS legislation in at least four major jurisdictions leading to a steady increase of the number of systems in operation in the near future.
